Does J and G Irrigation provide same-day service for irrigation emergencies in Calgary?

How much does sprinkler winterization cost in Calgary?

Professional sprinkler winterization in Calgary costs $80 to $150 for most residential systems depending on the number of zones. J.G. Irrigation offers flat-rate pricing with no surprise fees. Call 587-433-4795 for an exact quote.

When should I winterize my sprinklers in Calgary?

Calgary sprinkler systems should be winterized before the first hard freeze, typically between late September and mid-October. Booking by September is recommended as appointment slots fill up quickly. A hard freeze (below -4°C overnight) can crack irrigation pipes within hours.

What happens if you don't winterize your sprinklers in Calgary?

Skipping winterization in Calgary can result in cracked pipes, burst valves, broken backflow preventers, and damaged sprinkler heads from ice expansion. Repair costs from freeze damage typically run $300 to $1,500 or more — far exceeding the cost of a professional blowout.

Can I winterize my own sprinkler system?

DIY sprinkler blowouts require a compressor rated at 20+ CFM at 50 PSI and precise knowledge of your zone layout. Improper technique can damage head diaphragms, crack PVC fittings, or leave water in low spots that will freeze. Most Calgary homeowners find professional blowout service the safer and more reliable option.

When should I turn on my sprinklers in Calgary in spring?

The safe window to activate your Calgary sprinkler system is mid-May to early June, once overnight temperatures are consistently above 0°C and the ground has fully thawed to at least 6 inches deep. Activating too early risks pipe damage from ground frost.

What does a spring sprinkler startup include in Calgary?

A professional spring startup includes slowly opening the main water supply valve, pressurizing each zone, inspecting every sprinkler head for damage, adjusting head rotation and arc, checking the backflow preventer, testing the controller schedule, and confirming full coverage across all zones.

How do I know if my sprinkler system has a leak?

Common signs of a Calgary sprinkler leak include soggy or waterlogged patches on your lawn, a sudden spike in your water bill, uneven watering across zones, sprinkler heads that stay up after the system shuts off, unusually green stripes in the grass, and soft or sinking spots in the yard.

How fast can J.G. Irrigation fix a broken sprinkler system?

J.G. Irrigation offers same-week sprinkler repair service across Calgary. Most residential repairs — broken heads, leaking valves, stuck pop-ups — are completed in 1 to 3 hours. Call 587-433-4795 or book online for priority scheduling.

How much does sprinkler repair cost in Calgary?

Sprinkler repair in Calgary typically costs $75 to $250 for common issues like broken heads, stuck pop-ups, or clogged nozzles. Valve replacements run $100 to $300. Underground pipe repairs depend on depth and length but usually fall between $200 and $600 for residential systems.

Looking for an Irrigation Company Near You in Calgary?

When searching for an “irrigation company near me” in Calgary, the most important factor is not just proximity — it is whether the contractor is licensed for Alberta plumbing work, carries proper insurance, and can provide the full cycle of service your system requires (spring startup, backflow testing, mid-season service, fall winterization). A nearby contractor who cannot file the City permit or conduct the annual backflow test will cost you more over the life of your system.

How to Evaluate Irrigation Companies Near You in Calgary

Check for Alberta Plumbing Licence

Alberta Service Alberta maintains a public registry of licensed plumbing contractors. Any irrigation company performing mainline connections in Calgary must be licensed. Ask for the licence number and verify at saworks.alberta.ca before signing any contract. This takes 2 minutes and protects you from unpermitted work that becomes your legal liability.

Verify City of Calgary Backflow Certification

The City of Calgary Cross-Connection Control program maintains a list of certified testers. Only certified testers can file backflow test results with the City. If the irrigation company near you cannot conduct and file the annual backflow test, you will receive a City notice within 12-18 months of installation requiring you to hire a certified tester at your own cost.

Ask About Year-Round Service Capability

Calgary irrigation systems require professional service at the start and end of every season. A company that only installs systems but does not offer startup, backflow testing, repairs, and winterization will leave you searching for a different contractor every spring and fall. Choose a full-service irrigation company that can manage your system for the lifetime of the installation.
