Why does J and G Irrigation conduct lighting consultations at dusk in Calgary?

J and G Irrigation conducts all Calgary landscape lighting design consultations at or after dusk because the actual visual effect of a proposed fixture position and aim angle cannot be assessed accurately in daylight. A fixture that appears correctly aimed on a daytime plan may produce glare when viewed from a specific window, may under-light a tree whose canopy was not fully visible in daylight, or may create a hot spot on a wall feature that the daytime plan did not anticipate. A dusk consultation reveals all of these issues before installation, eliminating the costly re-positioning corrections that follow daytime-planned installations.

How long does a Calgary landscape lighting installation take?

A typical Calgary residential landscape lighting installation takes 4 to 8 hours for a small to medium system with 8 to 20 fixtures. Larger systems with 25 or more fixtures and extensive cable runs take 8 to 12 hours spread across two days. The longest phase is cable trenching and burial, which accounts for 40 to 50 percent of the installation time. J and G Irrigation schedules installations to include a dusk final walk on the installation day or the following evening to verify fixture aim and make any adjustments with the technician on-site.

What warranty does J and G Irrigation provide on landscape lighting installation in Calgary?

J and G Irrigation provides a workmanship warranty on all Calgary landscape lighting installations covering the cable burial, waterproof connector installation, transformer wiring, and fixture mounting. The manufacturer fixture warranty is passed through to the homeowner on all installed commercial-grade LED fixtures, which carry 3 to 5 year manufacturer warranties on drivers and 25,000 to 50,000-hour LED ratings. A written fixture map documenting every fixture position, wattage, and transformer zone is provided at installation for future service reference.

Professional sprinkler winterization in Calgary costs $80 to $150 for most residential systems depending on the number of zones. J.G. Irrigation offers flat-rate pricing with no surprise fees. Call 587-433-4795 for an exact quote.

When should I winterize my sprinklers in Calgary?

Calgary sprinkler systems should be winterized before the first hard freeze, typically between late September and mid-October. Booking by September is recommended as appointment slots fill up quickly. A hard freeze (below -4°C overnight) can crack irrigation pipes within hours.

What happens if you don't winterize your sprinklers in Calgary?

Skipping winterization in Calgary can result in cracked pipes, burst valves, broken backflow preventers, and damaged sprinkler heads from ice expansion. Repair costs from freeze damage typically run $300 to $1,500 or more — far exceeding the cost of a professional blowout.

Can I winterize my own sprinkler system?

DIY sprinkler blowouts require a compressor rated at 20+ CFM at 50 PSI and precise knowledge of your zone layout. Improper technique can damage head diaphragms, crack PVC fittings, or leave water in low spots that will freeze. Most Calgary homeowners find professional blowout service the safer and more reliable option.

When should I turn on my sprinklers in Calgary in spring?

The safe window to activate your Calgary sprinkler system is mid-May to early June, once overnight temperatures are consistently above 0°C and the ground has fully thawed to at least 6 inches deep. Activating too early risks pipe damage from ground frost.

What does a spring sprinkler startup include in Calgary?

A professional spring startup includes slowly opening the main water supply valve, pressurizing each zone, inspecting every sprinkler head for damage, adjusting head rotation and arc, checking the backflow preventer, testing the controller schedule, and confirming full coverage across all zones.

How do I know if my sprinkler system has a leak?

Common signs of a Calgary sprinkler leak include soggy or waterlogged patches on your lawn, a sudden spike in your water bill, uneven watering across zones, sprinkler heads that stay up after the system shuts off, unusually green stripes in the grass, and soft or sinking spots in the yard.

How fast can J.G. Irrigation fix a broken sprinkler system?

J.G. Irrigation offers same-week sprinkler repair service across Calgary. Most residential repairs — broken heads, leaking valves, stuck pop-ups — are completed in 1 to 3 hours. Call 587-433-4795 or book online for priority scheduling.

Do landscape lights work in Calgary winter?

Professional wired LED landscape lights rated at -40 degrees Celsius operate identically in Calgary winter as in summer. There are no batteries to fail and no solar performance degradation. Wired LED systems provide consistent dusk-to-dawn illumination regardless of temperature or snow accumulation on the fixture housing.

Can you add landscape lighting to an existing J.G. Irrigation irrigation system?

Yes. Landscape lighting and irrigation systems are completely separate services with different power sources and installation methods. Adding landscape lighting to an existing irrigation property is a standard project. Both services can be scheduled independently or bundled for a combined site visit and quote by calling 587-433-4795.

What colour temperature is best for Calgary landscape lighting?

2700K warm white is recommended for most Calgary residential landscape lighting, complementing sandstone, brick, wood, and stucco exteriors. Contemporary homes with grey or charcoal cladding may prefer 3000K. J.G. Irrigation brings fixture samples in both temperatures to the site consultation for visual comparison.
