What is included in professional outdoor lighting installation in Calgary?

J and G Irrigation professional outdoor lighting installation in Calgary includes a free dusk site walk consultation at actual nighttime lighting conditions, a scaled fixture layout plan showing every fixture position, type, wiring run, and transformer location, professional installation with commercial-grade -40C rated IP67 waterproofed fixtures and direct-burial wiring, and a post-installation nighttime adjustment walk to verify aiming and overall design effect with all adjustments included at no additional charge.

How long does outdoor lighting installation take in Calgary?

Calgary outdoor lighting installation takes 4 to 6 hours for small accent packages with 4 to 8 fixtures, 6 to 10 hours for mid-size front or back yard packages with 10 to 20 fixtures, and 1 to 2 days for full property packages with 20 to 40 fixtures. The post-installation nighttime adjustment walk typically occurs the evening of the installation day. Holiday lighting installation for a standard Calgary home is completed in 2 to 4 hours.

Do I need a permit for outdoor lighting installation in Calgary?

Low-voltage 12V landscape lighting does not require a permit in Alberta for the low-voltage wiring from transformer to fixtures. However, the 120V exterior receptacle that powers the transformer must be a code-compliant GFCI-protected outdoor outlet installed by a licensed electrician. If a new exterior outlet is needed for the transformer, J and G Irrigation coordinates with a licensed electrician for that circuit work. No permit is required for the landscape lighting fixtures or 12V wiring installation itself.

How much does sprinkler winterization cost in Calgary?

Professional sprinkler winterization in Calgary costs $80 to $150 for most residential systems depending on the number of zones. J.G. Irrigation offers flat-rate pricing with no surprise fees. Call 587-433-4795 for an exact quote.

When should I winterize my sprinklers in Calgary?

Calgary sprinkler systems should be winterized before the first hard freeze, typically between late September and mid-October. Booking by September is recommended as appointment slots fill up quickly. A hard freeze (below -4°C overnight) can crack irrigation pipes within hours.

What happens if you don't winterize your sprinklers in Calgary?

Skipping winterization in Calgary can result in cracked pipes, burst valves, broken backflow preventers, and damaged sprinkler heads from ice expansion. Repair costs from freeze damage typically run $300 to $1,500 or more — far exceeding the cost of a professional blowout.

Can I winterize my own sprinkler system?

DIY sprinkler blowouts require a compressor rated at 20+ CFM at 50 PSI and precise knowledge of your zone layout. Improper technique can damage head diaphragms, crack PVC fittings, or leave water in low spots that will freeze. Most Calgary homeowners find professional blowout service the safer and more reliable option.

When should I turn on my sprinklers in Calgary in spring?

The safe window to activate your Calgary sprinkler system is mid-May to early June, once overnight temperatures are consistently above 0°C and the ground has fully thawed to at least 6 inches deep. Activating too early risks pipe damage from ground frost.

What does a spring sprinkler startup include in Calgary?

A professional spring startup includes slowly opening the main water supply valve, pressurizing each zone, inspecting every sprinkler head for damage, adjusting head rotation and arc, checking the backflow preventer, testing the controller schedule, and confirming full coverage across all zones.

How do I know if my sprinkler system has a leak?

Common signs of a Calgary sprinkler leak include soggy or waterlogged patches on your lawn, a sudden spike in your water bill, uneven watering across zones, sprinkler heads that stay up after the system shuts off, unusually green stripes in the grass, and soft or sinking spots in the yard.

How fast can J.G. Irrigation fix a broken sprinkler system?

J.G. Irrigation offers same-week sprinkler repair service across Calgary. Most residential repairs — broken heads, leaking valves, stuck pop-ups — are completed in 1 to 3 hours. Call 587-433-4795 or book online for priority scheduling.

How much does sprinkler repair cost in Calgary?

Sprinkler repair in Calgary typically costs $75 to $250 for common issues like broken heads, stuck pop-ups, or clogged nozzles. Valve replacements run $100 to $300. Underground pipe repairs depend on depth and length but usually fall between $200 and $600 for residential systems.

outdoor lighting Installation in Calgary: The J&G Irrigation Process

Professional outdoor lighting installation in Calgary requires a design process, correct product specification for Alberta winters, and a verification step after installation that most contractors skip. J&G Irrigation installs outdoor landscape, security, holiday, and deck and patio lighting throughout Calgary and surrounding communities using a consistent four-step process that guarantees every installation delivers the intended result.

The J&G Irrigation Outdoor Lighting Installation Process

Step 1: Free Dusk Site Walk

All J&G Irrigation outdoor lighting consultations occur at dusk or after dark to assess actual ambient light conditions, identify key sightlines from the street and interior rooms, and evaluate existing light sources that the design must complement or contrast with. A daytime site walk cannot evaluate these factors. The dusk consultation is free for all Calgary properties and typically takes 30-45 minutes.

Step 2: Scaled Fixture Layout Plan

Following the site walk, J&G Irrigation produces a scaled fixture layout showing the position, type, model, wiring run, and zone grouping of every proposed fixture. The transformer location and capacity calculation are included. The homeowner reviews and approves the plan before any installation begins — there are no surprises about fixture placement after the fact.

Step 3: Professional Installation

J&G Irrigation installs all fixtures to the approved layout. All wiring is 12/2 or 10/2 direct-burial rated cable installed at appropriate depth. All fixtures are commercial-grade -40°C rated and IP67 waterproofed. Transformer programming, timer setup, and smart app configuration are completed at installation. The installation team leaves the property with the system fully operational.

Step 4: Post-Installation Nighttime Walk

J&G Irrigation returns after dark — typically the evening of the installation day or the following evening — to walk the installed system and verify fixture aiming, coverage, and overall design effect. Any adjustments are made at this visit at no additional charge. The nighttime walk is what separates professional outdoor lighting installation from a daytime guess.
