How much does sprinkler winterization cost in Calgary?

Professional sprinkler winterization in Calgary costs $80 to $150 for most residential systems depending on the number of zones. J.G. Irrigation offers flat-rate pricing with no surprise fees. Call 587-433-4795 for an exact quote.

When should I winterize my sprinklers in Calgary?

Calgary sprinkler systems should be winterized before the first hard freeze, typically between late September and mid-October. Booking by September is recommended as appointment slots fill up quickly. A hard freeze (below -4°C overnight) can crack irrigation pipes within hours.

What happens if you don't winterize your sprinklers in Calgary?

Skipping winterization in Calgary can result in cracked pipes, burst valves, broken backflow preventers, and damaged sprinkler heads from ice expansion. Repair costs from freeze damage typically run $300 to $1,500 or more — far exceeding the cost of a professional blowout.

Can I winterize my own sprinkler system?

DIY sprinkler blowouts require a compressor rated at 20+ CFM at 50 PSI and precise knowledge of your zone layout. Improper technique can damage head diaphragms, crack PVC fittings, or leave water in low spots that will freeze. Most Calgary homeowners find professional blowout service the safer and more reliable option.

When should I turn on my sprinklers in Calgary in spring?

The safe window to activate your Calgary sprinkler system is mid-May to early June, once overnight temperatures are consistently above 0°C and the ground has fully thawed to at least 6 inches deep. Activating too early risks pipe damage from ground frost.

What does a spring sprinkler startup include in Calgary?

A professional spring startup includes slowly opening the main water supply valve, pressurizing each zone, inspecting every sprinkler head for damage, adjusting head rotation and arc, checking the backflow preventer, testing the controller schedule, and confirming full coverage across all zones.

How do I know if my sprinkler system has a leak?

Common signs of a Calgary sprinkler leak include soggy or waterlogged patches on your lawn, a sudden spike in your water bill, uneven watering across zones, sprinkler heads that stay up after the system shuts off, unusually green stripes in the grass, and soft or sinking spots in the yard.

How fast can J.G. Irrigation fix a broken sprinkler system?

J.G. Irrigation offers same-week sprinkler repair service across Calgary. Most residential repairs — broken heads, leaking valves, stuck pop-ups — are completed in 1 to 3 hours. Call 587-433-4795 or book online for priority scheduling.

How much does sprinkler repair cost in Calgary?

Sprinkler repair in Calgary typically costs $75 to $250 for common issues like broken heads, stuck pop-ups, or clogged nozzles. Valve replacements run $100 to $300. Underground pipe repairs depend on depth and length but usually fall between $200 and $600 for residential systems.

When to Turn Off Sprinklers in Fall Calgary — 2026 Seasonal Guide

Turning off your Calgary sprinkler system for fall is a two-step process — first stopping the controller from running watering cycles, then arranging a professional blowout to remove water from the pipes before the first hard freeze. This guide explains the timeline for both steps in the Calgary fall 2026 season.

Calgary Sprinkler Fall Shutdown — Two-Step Timeline

Date / Condition	Action	Why
When daytime highs drop below 10°C (typically mid-September)	Switch controller to rain-off / pause / off	Lawn needs no more irrigation — soil stays moist from cooling temperatures and rain
September 15-25 (before first frost risk)	Have professional blowout completed	Removes water from all pipes, valves, and heads before freeze risk
After blowout is complete	Turn off irrigation main shutoff inside home	Eliminates any residual water from entering system during the winter
After October 1 without blowout	Call J.G. Irrigation immediately: 587-433-4795	Every day past Oct 1 is freeze risk — can cost $1,000+ in repairs

The controller off does NOT protect your pipes — there is still water in the lateral lines, valves, and heads that will freeze when temperatures drop below -4°C. Only a professional compressed-air blowout removes that water. Call J.G. Irrigation for your Calgary blowout: 587-433-4795.

Can I just turn off the controller and skip the blowout in Calgary?

No — turning off the controller stops watering cycles but leaves water inside all the pipes, valves, and heads. That water will freeze when Calgary temperatures drop below -4°C and can crack fittings, zone valves, and pipe joints. A professional blowout is the only way to protect the system from freeze damage. The blowout costs $90-$140. Repairs from skipping it cost $400-$3,000+. Call 587-433-4795.
